Phoebe Putney Health System has appointed Pamela Akins as Vice President of Nursing at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital

Phoebe Putney Health System is a not-for-profit healthcare delivery system serving more than 800,000 residents across 42 counties in southwest Georgia. With more than 5,500 employees, four hospitals totaling 1,040 beds, and annual revenues of approximately $800 million, Phoebe has experienced significant growth over the past two decades. Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, the system’s flagship facility, is a 691-bed comprehensive regional medical center operating across two campuses and offering advanced care in specialties including cardiovascular medicine, oncology, orthopedics, and women’s health.

In her role as Vice President of Nursing, Pamela reports to the System Chief Nursing Officer and serves as a key member of the senior leadership team. She provides strategic and operational oversight of nursing services, with responsibility for staffing, quality and performance improvement, regulatory and accreditation readiness, and the delivery of safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered care aligned with Phoebe’s mission and strategic priorities.

Pamela brings more than 15 years of progressive nursing and healthcare leadership experience across acute care hospitals and health systems. Her background includes senior executive roles such as Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer at UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, as well as prior CNO, interim executive, and service line leadership positions within Community Health Systems and other community-based hospitals. Her career reflects a strong commitment to nursing excellence, regulatory compliance, workforce development, and advancing clinical and patient experience outcomes.

Pamela holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration, blending clinical expertise with strategic, operational, and financial leadership.
