athenahealth has appointed Katie Flaherty as Executive Director, Technical Accounting.

Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Boston, athenahealth is a leading healthcare technology company that provides cloud-based software and services to ambulatory healthcare organizations across the United States. Through its athenaOne® platform, the company helps healthcare providers streamline clinical, administrative, and financial workflows while supporting a large national provider network and processing hundreds of millions of healthcare transactions annually.

In this role, Katie will serve as the enterprise leader responsible for interpreting, operationalizing, and governing complex accounting and tax matters across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, she will oversee Technical Accounting, Revenue Accounting, and Tax while partnering closely with Finance, Legal, Product, and Executive Leadership to support strategic decision-making, compliance, reporting excellence, and scalable growth.

Katie brings more than a decade of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience. Most recently, she served as Director of Strategic Accounting Initiatives at HubSpot, where she acted as an accounting subject matter expert for key business initiatives and led strategic revenue recognition efforts. Previously, as Director of Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting, she oversaw accounting for complex areas including acquisitions, stock-based compensation, debt, goodwill and intangible assets, and SEC reporting while providing guidance on technical accounting matters to senior executives and auditors.

Prior to HubSpot, Katie served as Corporate Controller and Assistant Corporate Controller at Care.com, where she led the controllership function for a $300 million SaaS business and managed accounting, tax compliance, financial reporting, systems, and SOX compliance. Earlier in her career, she spent eight years with PricewaterhouseCoopers, advancing from Assurance Associate to Senior Manager within the firm’s Technology Group. She is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a concentration in Accounting from Boston College.
